This is a newly created role to ensure our compliance with New Zealand tax legislation while optimising our tax position, undertake reporting and managing treasury functions. This fulltime Tax Accountant position is based in our Support Office located in Manukau.

Some of your responsibilities will include:  

  • Tax Compliance – ensure compliance tax legislation including accurate tax return filing and timely payments for GST, Income Tax and FBT.
  • Tax Planning and Strategy - advising the business on tax implications of financial decisions, acquisitions, expansions, or restructuring.
  • Manage Tax audits - Representing the company during tax audits by the IRD or other regulatory authorities. Preparing documentation, liaising with tax authorities, and handling any disputes or negotiations regarding tax assessments.
  • Financial Reporting and Tax Accounting - ensuring accurate reporting of taxes in the company's financial statements. Working with the finance team to ensure that tax provisions and deferred tax assets or liabilities are correctly reflected.
  • Cashflow Management and Forecasting – manage the cashflow and forecast to optimize flow of cash in the business of commitments can be met with cash reserves. Manage any loan facilities judiciously to minimise reliance on the facility.
  • Advisory on new tax regulations - keeping the business informed about changes in tax law, both local and international. Advising on the implications of these changes for the company’s operations, reporting, and compliance.
  • Transfer Pricing Compliance - Ensuring compliance with transfer pricing regulations. Preparing transfer pricing documentation to justify the pricing of intercompany transactions.
  • Risk Management - Identifying and mitigating tax risks, ensuring that the business is not exposed to undue penalties or fines. Developing internal tax controls and processes to ensure compliance.

The attributes we are looking for:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Taxation.
  • Professional certification (Chartered Accounting, CPA).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a previous tax focused role ideally at an external audit firm.
  • Strong knowledge of NZ Tax legislation and previous experience in tax planning.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Experience within a large retail organisation (desirable).
  • Previous experience using SAP S4 HANA (desirable).
